A Day in a Child’s Life (includes music scores)
Illustrated by Kate Greenaway
Music by Myles B. Foster
George Routledge and Sons, London, nd 1881. First edition 4to - 9¾" - 12" tall. This is a first edition, first issue of a very popular Victorian book, beautifully illustrated by Kate Greenaway. The book presents nine songs of the day, set to music by Myles B. Foster. Foster himself was a very well known water colorist and book illustrator (and father of William Foster), his credit within this book is as the Organist of the Foundling Hospital. The fabulous wood engraving is by Edmund Evans, engraver and printer of many books of Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane. There are 30 printed pages, all but one containing a Greenaway illustration. Lavishly illustrated with the sweet children and flowers which made Greenaway's books so popular; young children in Victorian dress with bonnets and set in idyllic English gardens. Greens, yellows, pinks and blues dominate the color illustrations.
Thompson 31A. Schuster & Engen 66. Osborne 11:63 "Although the Times did not give a favorable review, it was in this book, that Kate Greenaway first showed her full power as a painter of flowers."
