The Book is a lovely floral tale of the, illustrated in bright pastels color lithography, the leaves are folded in the Japanese style, including title page. The black and salmon text is penned in Crane's graceful calligraphy. The decorative rose patterned endpapers are also designed by Crane.
40 pp, plus catalogue pages, including a full-page ad for Crane's "Flora's Feast" third edition.
There is a lot of confusion around about this book. The first one is about the name; many antiquarians booksellers list it as: Queen Summer or the Journey of the Lily and the Rose.
The second confusion is about the year of publication of the editions; It has been a first trade edition in 1891, a first limited edition of 250 copies in 1891 and an edition of 1901. Because most of the antiquarian booksellers try to get top money for their books, they date them as 1891. Therefore they describe a trade first edition of 9.75" - 12" tall and a trade first edition 8.25” x 11.25”.
The size of the book presented here is 8.25” x 11.25” and in the publisher catalog included at the end there is a listing call “European Pictures of the Year, 1894”. I assume that this is a 1901 edition.
